Exploring the database : General instructions

The catalogue covers thousands of objects, with dozens of parameters per object. How do you find information in such a table?

  1. You can search for a given object by entering its name in the search window:
  2. You can order the values taken by a given parameter and find, for example, the planet closest to us by sorting the corresponding parameter. The distance parameter is visible in All fields, and the little arrows next to the parameter name can be used to sort the parameter values in ascending or descending order.
  3. But we can’t access the properties of the exoplanet population without statistical tools , in particular diagrams [art92] that show the relationships between two parameters or histograms that show the distribution of the values of a parameter. You will find a diagram and histogram tool on the scientific site, via this link.

Hereafter, we shall discover and comment several examples of histograms and diagrams.
