Databases

The database presents the parameters of all known exoplanets. The data are extracted daily from the Encyclopaedia of Exoplanetary Systems. This Encyclopedia, a world reference for researchers, collects the properties of exoplanetary systems from international research journals.

  • The educational catalog is a different presentation of the same dataset as the Exoplanetary Systems Portal catalog
  • The differences between the two catalogs are:
    • The english language of the research site
    • The presence of calculated parameters in the educational catalog (blue and green cases)
    • The possibility of preselecting object types in the catalog (presets) :
      • Full scholar catalog
      • Objects with mass < 13 Jupiter masses
      • Objects with mass > 13 Jupiter masses
      • Only free floating objects
      • Binary stars objects
      • Pulsars ? and white dwarves ? objects
  • The statistical tools are currently associated with the research catalog, and therefore the Explore the database activity uses the research catalog.
  • The counter below quantifies some families of objects in the Encyclopedia.

The parameters are described here and here

The limits of the database :

  • Upper limit : The database concerns objects with masses less than 60 Jupiter masses (MJ). This population of objects is a mixture of planets and brown dwarfs ? , although it is not yet possible to differentiate them (see Definition of exoplanet). The base also contains more exotic objects like pulsar ? planets.
  • The lower limit of the catalog (the smallest objects) is due to the instrumental limitations of the observational instruments. Each technique has its own observational limitations.
